Stargazer's Children
by Martini Reimer Janz
$15.00

Art and Martini Janz were among the last generation of American missionaries who went to Africa to do basic evangelism. Now, almost 70 years later, Martini writes the story. Stargazer’s Children merges Art and Martini’s call and preparation for ministry in Belgian Congo with the involvement of extended families in a small, ethnically homogeneous town in Manitoba, Canada, and the Janz family’s return to North America. She holds nothing back in telling the story as it unfolded through family disagreements, cultural misunderstandings, and evidence of God at work in her own life as well as in what is now Democratic Republic of Congo. Stargazer’s Children would be very useful to all those working and planning to work in other cultures, exhibiting the learning that can take place when the other culture is approached with respect and great love. H. David Brandt., PhD

Martini served for many years as both a mission worker and an office employee for AIMM.

100 Ans/The Jesus Tribe
Congo Centennial Books
$10.00

The French version of the Congo Centennial Book (or the Congo Story Gathering project) has been jointly published by the Institute of Mennonite Studies, AMBS, and the Institute for the Study of Global Anabaptism, Goshen College.  The book, titled 100 Ans de Mission Mennonite en République Démocratique du Congo : Témoignages des Apports Locaux 1912-2012, was featured at both the 100th anniversary celebrations of the Mennonite Church of Congo, as well as the 50th anniversary gala of the Evangelical Mennonite Church of Congo in July 2012.

The English version of the Congo Centennial Book is also a joint publication of the IMS and the ISGA, entitled: The Jesus Tribe: Grace Stories from Congo’s Mennonites
1912-2012.

Both of these books can be found online! As of July 2013, under the auspices of Goshen College’s Institute for the Study of Global Anabaptism, stories about Congolese Mennonite Christians, collected through collaboration between Congolese Mennonites and AIMM, are now available online.  Electronic versions of both The Jesus Tribe, and its French companion volume, 100 Ans de Mission Mennonite en République Démocratique du Congo, can be found at www.anabaptistwiki.org .  Look for the following title: NEW ADDITION! "Bearing Witness: Martyrdom and Costly Discipleship in the Anabaptist-Mennonite Tradition".  You will find a link to the story collections in this section.

Home is Where God Calls Us
by Dwight Short
$10.00

Former Merrill Lynch Investment Manager Dwight Short is author of Home is Where God Calls Us, in which he has written about the missionary career of his Aunt Lodema Short. At the 1958 Brussels World’s Fair, Lodema accompanied a group of nine Congolese Mennonite young men, called “The Happy Singers”, as they shared gospel music and broke down racial stereotypes through their many concerts and interactions across the city. A couple of short years later in the immediate aftermath of Belgium’s granting political independence to Congo, the entire Congo Inland Mission missionary team was fleeing for the Angolan border as a violent backlash against Belgian rule broke out in various parts of the country. Despite such experiences of instability and volatility, many missionaries including Lodema, focusing less on the insecurity of the situation and more on their call from God to serve in Congo, were back in the country a short time later to continue their service. The persistence and love of this missionary community has subsequently reaped huge benefits for God’s kingdom through the strong growth of Congo’s Mennonite churches.
